This self grip edge trim 14mm x 16.2mm is a highly durable edge protector. It is ideal for protecting edges on a wide range of materials, it is also suitable for use as a decorative trim to improve the appearance of any edge. When storing or transporting materials the edges often collide which can warp or in some cases cause damage to the material. Equally, leaving sharp edges exposed on finished products like sheds can pose a potential hazard to the people around them. This edge trim provides a simple and cost-effective solution to protect any edge from damage or from causing harm to other people.
This particular edge trim features a steel core that runs throughout the length of the product which gives our product two main benefits over other products. Firstly the steel core provides a rigid structure which ensures that our product is able to hold its shape even under heavy pressure. Secondly, the steel core offers a solid section to protect you, as well as the edge from any potential impacts. The inner channel of the edge trim also contains a gripping arm which enables you to install this product without the need for adhesive. This enables you to use the same product over and over again.
We manufacture this edge trim from high-quality PVC rubber due to the unique properties the material offers. PVC rubber can easily prevent weather and moisture from coming into contact with the material. This makes it perfect for use in outdoor applications. PVC also offers great resistance to a wide range of chemicals, which makes it suitable for indoor use.
We offer edge trims in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. If you haven’t found what you are looking for you can view the full range here.
Sealing profiles are a combination of PVC edge protectors with sponge rubber profiles or a co-extrusion of solid and sponge rubber. These profiles have a dual function; they cover sharp or unfinished edges and also offer a sealing function. The sponge rubber tubes are extremely flexible and are suitable for sealing doors, hatches, as well as numerous other applications.
Edge trim profiles simplify the finishing of edges. They eliminate preparatory and follow-up work, and cover sheet metal edges. Furthermore, their decorative effect is often desirable. The edge trim protectors consist of a U-shaped metal base, either a steel strip or wire carrier, jacketed with PVC or rubber. These guarantee a tight grip on the edge, even if radii or bends need cover. Press the edge trim profiles onto the edge by hand or with a rubber or thermoplastic hammer. You do not require adhesive or special attachment aids, installation is simple and quick.
After installing this self grip edge trim 14mm x 16.2mm, it is important to ensure that the compression of the sponge part should not exceed a maximum of 50%. Exceeding this can greatly affect the overall compression and recovery of the product. An ideal compression rate should be between 30-40%, as this allows the product to return to its original state. If the sponge part of the profile has two sections then apply this value should to each section.
The crucial quality for sealing products is their enduring deformation. This essentially refers to how well the product recovers after you compress it at a specific temperature for a length of time. The most common characteristic is the compression set (DVR) ASTM D395. In order to determine this value, the sponge part of the product is compressed by 25% and then stored at a set temperature for a predetermined period of time. After the product has been released and left at room temperature for 30 minutes, the height or width (depending on position) is measured and the enduring deformation can be identified. A DVR of 0 would indicate that the test body has reached its original height (unlikely in reality), a DVR of 100% shows that the test body has no recovery and would remain completely deformed.
This is important to note because as the sponge compresses it puts pressure on the seal. After an extended period of time the rubber can deform. If the DVR is too high the elasticity performance and sealing will decrease affecting the performance of the product.
